FAQs

LEMUR is patent-pending medical software that provides “live” and “universal” interoperability of core medical data to various end-users, including Electronic Medical Record (EMR) programs, providers, pharmacies, under the direct control of patients while enhancing the protection and privacy of their data. LEMUR empowers its users to quickly retrieve from a central Cloud-based source the most up-to-date and pertinent patient information, including medications, allergies, immunizations, and insurance. LEMUR’s purpose is to provide “true” interoperability amongst all medical systems and users, regardless of the end-user’s own EMR platform or medical software, by allowing the patient to be the holder of the “master” copy of their healthcare data. Lastly, LEMUR will provide patients a comprehensive suite of powerful tools to help guide them to making the best decisions in their healthcare journey.

YOUR DATA. YOUR CONTROL. YOUR HEALTH.

“A public benefit corporation (PBC) is a for-profit corporation or domestic cooperative that is intended to produce one or more public benefits and to operate in a responsible and sustainable manner.” – https://www.sos.state.co.us/pubs/business/FAQs/pbc.html

In short, a PBC is a for-profit with a non-profit mission. The primary mission is to deliver as many healthcare services as possible in a free personalized healthcare experience to ALL patients regardless of race, gender, sexuality, or ability to pay or have medical insurance. Secondarily, decreasing the costs of healthcare allows more patients to have greater access to traditional healthcare services and insurance.

Dr. Amann considers this for an exceptionally long time as the mission is a non-profit mission. After a lot of research and legal counsel, the best route to accomplish the enormous goals was to be a for-profit company. Despite many successful and amazing non-profits, funding is difficult to obtain, especially at the level needed to create a healthcare software platform at scale aimed at helping everyone. Control of the current and future direction of the company was also a primary factor; Dr. Amann has a strong vision for what LEMUR should be and how it will evolve over the next 10 years and understands a for-profit company can more easily pivot if / when needed.

The heart of the LEMUR patent-pending platform is a core, “live” bank of medical records that can be universally accessed through all EMR programs, pharmacies, and healthcare providers, under the direct control of patients. To condense the space necessary to store this amount of data and maximize the delivery speed, LEMUR will focus on only storing the most pertinent patient information in a Cloud-based system. This includes the most up-to-date medications, allergies, immunizations, insurance information, as well as other demographics. Combining patients core medical data with the most up to date patient care information sourced from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) will allow for a truly customized patient experience.

EMR and EHR are acronyms for Electronic Medical Record and Electronic Health Record respectively and are often used interchangeably. They have been in use since the 1970s, but over the last few decades, they have enjoyed a renaissance that has radically changed the landscape of healthcare. EMR’s serve five major purposes:

  • Database to store patient information
  • Comprise a list of problems the patient is facing
  • Create a plan to treat the patient
  • Track the patient’s progress with daily notes
  • Document the patient’s condition upon discharge

The EMR market is worth an estimated $30 billion global industry in 2020, and in North America alone, it was a 12.1 billion market in 2018. There are currently over 1,100 EMR’s in the US alone – but none of them are designed with the patient at the forefront. That is because the current EMRs are designed to maximize billing processes and do not share data accurately. This means that when a patient moves from one physician to another, their electronic record becomes disjointed, and the history is lost for new physician visits who need that information. So, it takes several administrative steps for the physician to now get that information, and a patient recall of multiple years of history may not be totally accurate.

LEMUR does not wish to compete with current EMR systems; on the contrary, we wish to work with them as we feel they serve a vital purpose in the healthcare system and provide functions we never want to dive into. We feel together we can push innovation, interoperability, patient safety, and privacy far into the future, today!

Definition – the ability to electronically share patient info between different EMR systems & healthcare providers.

Why aren’t systems interoperability already?

  • No central organization that stores patient information; data spread over multiple healthcare organizations & insurance companies
    • To compound the issue – multiple EMR platforms used by different health systems all around the world
    • EMR’s focus on dominating the industry, not collaboration
  • Physicians were initially sold the idea of electronic medical records specifically for the ability to share patient health information easily; lack of interoperability is by design
  • Patients feel trapped within one system that hordes all their info
    • Data sharing is also being done without patient participation
  • Database to store patient information
  • Comprise a list of problems the patient is facing
  • Create a plan to treat the patient
  • Track the patient’s progress with daily notes
  • Document the patient’s condition upon discharge

We have not decided yet, we have identified many potential revenue sources based on what other market participants currently do and have done in the past, and these avenues will be fully discussed with investors. After testing, we will likely see what the market values most and target those areas for monetization. We want to decrease the cost of care for everyone, so any service we offer will be done at the smallest profit margin we can and likely far under what any current market competition would offer. We do know that LEMUR will never charge patients for access to its patent-pending platform. This is our core value as we want every patient to have FREE access to their data, FREE control over their data and privacy, and FREE access to the best and most up to date healthcare data possible.
We feel and aim to cut out 1 Trillion dollars of costs out of the healthcare system. The way this will be done will be tremendously valuable to patients and health insurance companies, hospitals, physicians, providers, pharmacies, and the government as it is the largest healthcare payer in the US.

Sign-up is easy with LEMUR! It only takes three short steps to register with LEMUR, requiring only basic information (name, DOB, SSN, phone, email, address, & other demographical details). After you create an account, you will be able to login & verify your identity either by requesting your identity be confirmed through your primary health provider via email, or through LEMUR, where we will ask you a few security questions to confirm your identity. Once your identity is confirmed, you will have access to the LEMUR dashboard. LEMUR’s patent-pending software is currently under development and will be open for beta testing soon; once we fully launch, we will depend on people like you to spread the word and attract more users. The more users of the platform we have, the more good we can do for everyone, including increasing access and reducing costs while improving outcomes!

One of the many benefits of LEMUR’s patent-pending platform will be parents’ ability to have access to their kid’s accounts. Mom’s and Dad’s (stepparents, legal guardians, etc.) can both access kids’ accounts and have them tied to their individual accounts as well as caregiver facilities or anyone with healthcare power of attorney. It will even be possible to give temporary access to a trusted friend or relative if they need to take your child to a doctor in an emergency and this can be done in a secure fashion where the relative cannot access the data but only be able to hand off access to the doctor and prove they were given access to bring the child to the care center. This is currently verified by insecure methods such as a handwritten note or a phone call to an unverifiable person on the other end of the call.

FREE – always free for patients! LEMUR believes that healthcare is not a privilege but a right, free for all to have access to… ANY time, ANYWHERE, ANY provider.

No. LEMUR will work with or without you having health insurance. However, if you have insurance, we plan to fully integrate with their platforms to give you real-time access to the pricing of healthcare services and search for in-network providers and facilities.
LEMUR would strongly suggest everyone have health insurance, and we hope to increase access for everyone by reducing the costs of care; We dream of a future where all providers are in our network.

Yes. The heart of the LEMUR patent-pending platform is a core, “live” bank of medical records that can be universally accessed through all EMR’s, pharmacies, and healthcare providers, under the direct control of patients. The integration will take time, but the benefits of the services we will offer should promote the speed that this happens. LEMUR users will only interact with systems we have integrated with; those who are slow to integrate or purposely delay integration will rapidly lose market share to competitors and first movers.

The key to LEMUR’s patent-pending software is based on the concept of the first principles approach. We are looking at healthcare and asking if we started over today, with today’s technology would things look the same? This is a resounding NO. Today’s system is built on old technology that was significantly limited and has only had small incremental tweaks over time. With today’s technology, we can put patients in control via cloud storage, allow for better security and privacy via blockchain-type technologies, and the experience can be personalized using AI and machine learning. LEMUR will take advantage of today’s current amazing technologies behind the scenes to provide patients with a seamless user experience to enhance their engagement in their care and improve the healthcare journey.

The six core functions that encompass the patient journey.

  1. Personal Med Record – Stores the most pertinent patient information in a Cloud-based system that includes the most up-to-date medications, allergies, immunizations, insurance information, as well as other demographics. This tool can be used to improve the results of the other 5 core functions by personalizing the results to the individual user. For example, LEMUR will allow the patient to directly receive a prescription on their app and price check it in real-time based on their insurance (or lack of insurance) to all pharmacies, which allows the patients to make the best decision for them based on price and convenience. To reduce healthcare costs for everyone and increase healthcare access, patients need to be put back in the driver’s seat of their own healthcare.
  2. Search – This ad-free tool will provide patients with care instructions on common health ailments and previously diagnosed conditions that focuses on information and treatment. Though this function is not meant to substitute as a diagnostic tool, it will help patients make better-informed decision making regarding their health and possible treatment without the annoyance of advertisement and medical bias that unfortunately plagues healthcare. There are hundreds of ways to currently get FREE healthcare advise, but they are nearly all paid promotions for a product or service. LEMUR’s patent-pending software just gives you medically backed information without ads, paid promotion, or the ability to sell you something.
  3. FIND – A powerful tool that allows patients to search a database of registered providers and specialists and schedule appointments for treatment. The FIND function will not only allow patients to filter providers by insurance networks and location of their practice, but also by a patient rating system LEMUR has curtailed that both fairly assesses providers and encourages positive patient feedback. Lastly, with the growing use of telemedicine, LEMUR has incorporated in the FIND function telemedicine capabilities to connect patients with providers for quick and convenient access. The key to this service is that all providers will wish to participate. Currently, competitive services are “pay to play” or “paid to rank,” which means the list of providers visible are those who pay to be ranked higher on the search list while the others have problems filling appointments. LEMUR will not accept bribes to be ranked higher, and all providers will be viewable to patients who can choose the best provider available.
  4. Symptom Checker – This LEMUR function aims to help diagnose a patient’s symptoms as accurately and unbiasedly as possible using detailed questionnaires and AI that utilizes their core medical data to provide the most probable cause of their ailment. Much like the Search tool that LEMUR provides, the Symptom Checker tool is not meant to substitute in-person assessments by providers but rather improve the accuracy of information patients seek when they try to diagnose themselves through various internet search tools. Another tool that exists on the market in different forms, LEMUR aims to be different by avoiding any paid advertising or biases that plague many of the current systems. We also personalize this to the individual via your core medical data and demographic information and, in the future, can also augment this with genetic information and past medical history.
  5. Goals – An ongoing measure, LEMUR hopes to improve patient’s health long-term through preventative medicine. This tool focuses on tracking the progress of the health goals patients have created in collaboration with their health providers, including reminders that encourage healthy behavior. Additionally, LEMUR aims to provide a wealth of Public Health resources that are tailored to patients based upon their Personalized Medical Record. Lastly, LEMUR will look to partner with 3rd Party Services that utilize real-time diagnostic tools in smartphones and smartwatches to further enhance ongoing treatment of conditions, such as blood-glucose applications for diabetic patients.
  6. Social Groups – LEMUR strongly believes in the power of community as an essential resource for healthier lifestyles and strives to provide an outlet for patients to connect with others as an invaluable resource and source of encouragement for their health journeys. This not only includes a platform to connect with immediate friends and family but a database of support groups that patients can connect with for specialized help as well. We believe a key component that many current social media systems are the mark on is focusing on small groups. Having family, friend, support groups that are small eliminate most of the negatives about current platforms that reward internet trolls via audience size and rewards for clicks … LEMUR also feels the small groups providers deeper connections and engagement.

LEMUR will be fully customizable. However, one way we hope to stand out is to not be overwhelming to the user. We focus on the core data and the core healthcare functions that patients need to better take advantage of today’s technology and the healthcare information that is already available in an unbiased no-add FREE platform.

Another tool LEMUR is excited to offer patients is the “Symptom Checker.” With this function, patients can add symptoms of the ailment they are experiencing and will be prompted to respond to follow-up questions (like playing 20 questions), and this information will be analyzed along with LEMUR’s core medical record to give you a personalized response. From there, LEMUR’s patent-pending software will offer the patient a list of possible conditions that are most likely associated with their current symptoms. With that information, patients can FIND more information about the possible diagnosis or SEARCH for a provider to schedule an appointment if treatment is necessary. LEMUR’s “Symptom Checker” is but a preliminary step in helping patients get the best care that they can. Better yet, the more patients use the symptom checker and provide feedback, the better the system will get, not only for the individual but for all LEMUR users.

Medications are purposefully prescribed with the goal of helping the patient within a certain timeframe. It is recommended that if a patient’s condition does not improve, or in fact worsens, the patient should contact their provider to notify them of their condition so that the patient can be scheduled to be re-evaluated by their provider in hopes of determining a more effective treatment strategy. Prescription refills may be requested through the app if the patient and provider have already been connected through the platform. For example, you could request refills from your family doctor or original prescriber of a medicine through the LEMUR patent-pending app. Also, if you were recently at the urgent care and developed a minor reaction to a medicine, you could also reach out and potentially be treated directly through the app. An example would be the treatment for a yeast infection after an antibiotic prescription.

No. We feel these should be left to the large hospital-based EMR’s as we aim to purposefully have a narrow focus so we can do these core functions at the highest level possible. However, our hope is that you could access a larger systems patient portal through LEMUR. Many patients have multiple patient portals at different systems, and through partnering with the EMR’s directly, each could be linked to LEMUR for one-stop access. We want to work with these larger companies and support what they do for hospitals and providers and would want to work with them in any way that benefits patients.

LEMUR strongly believes in the power of community as an essential resource for healthier lifestyles and strives to provide an outlet for patients to connect with others as an invaluable resource and source of encouragement for their health journeys. This not only includes a platform to connect with immediate friends and family but a database of support groups that patients can connect with for specialized help as well.

All providers, specialists and facilities wishing to participate will be searchable on LEMUR.

Yes, patients can select a provider & schedule a date & time for an appointment using the “Find Care” Tool. Patients can also refer to previous visit information when they click on a provider listed under “My Doctors.” Patients can schedule a future appointment with these same doctors as well if they would like follow-up. Appointments will show up on your personalized dashboard and a calendar view.

We will allow all telemedicine services to be available on the platform. We will not offer a competitive direct service, as our goal is not to compete with services like this. We want to allow access to patients who will decide themselves which service or provider serves them best.

We do this by speeding up processes that already exist, like patient registration, insurance verification, medication reconciliation, and medical error reduction. We provide services better, cheaper while providing actual benefits to patients and better feedback to caregivers through our platform.
